Introducing Carter Acres Quarter Horses!

Set in the picturesque rolling hills of west central Minnesota, we have been breeding, raising and training Registered Quarter Horses for over twenty years.  We are so fortunate to have a valuable heritage in that we are affiliated with the Lazy JS Ranch in Bowman, North Dakota. Nada’s father, Russ Silha, started raising Quarter Horses many years ago. In fact, the ranch hosted its 65th annual production sale on August 17, 2024, making us one of the longest running Quarter Horse production sales in the country. We do our best to follow in the family footsteps and raise horses that are structurally correct, athletic enough to go to the arena or the ranch and have trainable dispositions that most people can get along with. And, if you’ve noticed that our brand resembles the Jesus fish symbol, that’s on purpose as we strive to follow His teachings, keeping the Golden Rule at the top of our list.

The Carter Family....
Dale, Nada, Levi, Kyerra, Hunter, Quincy, Zach, Brady, Susannah
Now that the kids are mostly grown, the roles have changed around the farm, however, at crunch time, many of them can be found helping us out in myriad ways.
Dale-Resident nutritionist and farm manager; training assistant
Nada: Head trainer and promotion guru; events coordinator
Quincy: Broodmare owner, head branding artist and color decrypter
Levi: We're happy if he shows up once in awhile
Brady: Sheep specialist of the farm, but assists with the horses when needed; genetics guru & recent stallion prospect finder; prospect owner
Susie: Jumps in wherever needed and new prospect owner
Kyerra: Broodmare owner, head designer for custom prizes, lead consultant for bouncing off ideas!
Hunter: Premier farrier and jumps in wherever else needed!
Zach: Quieting artist and catcher extrordinaire!

How to Register and Bid

Beneath each colt, you'll find a "Register to Bid" prompt. You'll need to click on that and then follow the prompts. Returning Horse Auctions USA users will enter their email/password. NEW users on Horse Auctions USA will click on the bottom line that says "No Account? Sign up here" and proceed.

You will need to register with a valid credit/debit card in order to bid. Upon registration, Horse Auctions USA will place a $500 preauthorization on that card as a good faith hold (much like when you rent a car). We hate that this is necessary however, with internet scammers ever increasing in numbers, it is unfortunately a step we must take to ensure our bidders are real live humans, over the age of 18, with a valid payment method for winning bids. This hold will be released at the conclusion of the auction and vanish as if it was never there. It is NOT a charge - it will remain pending and never complete.

Once registration is complete, you are "off to the races" so to speak and can get to bidding! You can elect to bid as you go, placing bids when you receive a notification that you have been outbid by another bidder OR, you can "set it and forget it"  Much like ebay, you can opt to enter a "Max Bid" using the drop down arrow to the right of the bid button. If choosing this option, the computer will then essentially do the work for you, only raising your bid by the next available bidding increment when another bidder raises the current bid. This is a very nice hands free option that works well with busy schedules! You can of course jump in and adjust that max bid up as needed.

While you can absolutely elect to participate from the website or the Horse Auctions USA app, we do recommend the app for timed online only auctions for those of you using an iPhone or iPad.  Unfortunately, the app is unavailable for our Android users but the website will work just fine on your phone's browser. Should you be outbid, you will receive an instant notification. If you don't have the app, this notification will go to your registered email. If you do have the app and have notifications enabled, you will get an instant notification directly to your phone so you don't miss out!

Should you be the lucky winning bidder, first, CONGRATULATIONS!  Second, you're probably wondering how to proceed!

Horse Auctions USA will email you over an invoice with the total amount due. This amount is to be paid directly to Carter Acres Quarter Horses in the form of cash, good check, or a wire transfer (US Funds). Payment needs to be made no later than the close of business on Tuesday, May 26th unless prior arrangements have been made with Carter Acres Quarter Horses.

Lots will begin to close in staggered numerical order (5 minutes between each lot) This will be a "soft close" so if any bids are placed on a lot in the final 2 minutes, the closing time for that lot will extend for 2 additional minutes, closing only when there are no additional bids for a full 2 minutes.

BIDDERS PLEASE NOTE! When you register to bid, Horse Auctions USA will place a $500 preauthorization on the credit or debit card that you register with. This is NOT a charge, just a preauthorization. Your mobile banking may send a notification that appears as a charge - AGAIN, it is just a preauthorization. The $500 will show as "pending" and then never complete but rather, will just vanish as if it was never there. Once the sale is complete, this preauthorization is released for all non-winning bidders. Winning bidders will have the preauthorization lifted once final settlement is made with the auction company. If for any reason you as a winning bidder fail to make final payment to Carter Acres Quarter Horses before the close of business on Monday, you understand that Horse Auctions USA will finalize the $500 preauthorization and remit it to Carter Acres Quarter Horses to be applied to your bill. Further, you understand that Horse Auctions USA will charge your registered card for the full amount due to Carter Acres Quarter Horses for your winning bids. BID RESPONSIBLY and remember, your bid is a legally binding contract! You are responsible for your winning bids.
